To manage the operations supply base on a daily basis. Purchase for the brand(s) items in accordance with the defined strategies, by optimizing the total cost and ensuring the QDC objectives of the purchased items. Report to the Local Purchasing Manager. Support the regional commodity management team by implementing commodity strategies.

Main Tasks/ Responsibilities / Authorities:

  • Support the Volvo CE PSM objectives and goals

  • Responsible for purchasing portfolio

  • Use the purchasing tools to drive continuous improvement in supplier Quality, Delivery and Cost, participate in SEM valuations, key interface, RFQ

  • Manage serial production changes (ECN….)

  • Collaborate with P&SM New Product Development/Project Leaders

  • Research supplier invoice discrepancies versus VCE established pricing, document and take appropriate actions with the supplier and Commodity managers as required

  • Send out RFQ’s to approved suppliers, negotiate prices, and select suppliers in accordance with sourcing strategies

  • Understand, contribute to, and implement decided Volvo purchasing strategies where applicable

  • Place production and prototype orders with approved suppliers

  • Suggest educated sourcing changes to the commodity buyer/manager

  • Be involved in the supplier selection and implementation as part of the commodity team

  • Maintain plant vendor list updated and in line with commodity strategy, propose and contribute to rationalization

  • Maintain updated component/supplier documentation and complete information

  • Help validate plant QDC information

  • Prioritize local resolution of issues but escalate to Commodity Buyers or higher level when needed

  • Fully understand the TLC for all components in the commodity area (Total Landed Cost including packaging, duties and transportation)

  • Challenge Logistics, Quality and Packaging experts and lead / organize brainstorming activities with them to generate productivity savings through transport/packaging optimization

  • Evaluate suppliers in accordance with the Volvo processes

  • Follow-up and report operational activities during projects

  • Work closely with and support the inbound Materials group for appropriate related activities

  • Achievement of his/her KPI’s

  • Work in accordance with the Volvo CE processes, the Volvo Way, and the Volvo values and behaviors

  • Be the first point of contact for plant operations team for supplier caused QD issues

  • Drive EDI implementation

  • Participate actively in APQP activities, when required, on level of parts to be processed with the Supplier Development Engineer

  • Escalate QDC relevant issues out of ECN’s, projects etc. in accordance with cOMMon and the site processes

Key Skills:

  • Strong coordination and organization skills

  • PC-literate (including Office Outlook and other MS Office programs)

  • Experience in a multinational environment (at top level)

  • Maturity and ability to work independently with minimum supervision

  • Diplomacy and discretion required

  • Flexibility and availability

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and cultural understanding

Required knowledge & experience:

Education/Professional Qualifications required for the position:

  • 4 year college degree required : BA, BS

  • Commercial and / or technical background

  • Ideally more than two years of experience from sourcing

Additional Important Requirements:

  • Knowledge of up to date supply chain strategies and implementation tools

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the Volvo PPD & P&SM processes and tools

  • Fluent English (+ local language)
