Volvo Group Senior Product and Process Manager in Radford, Virginia

The Senior Product & Process Manager will manage all aspects of a large scale and complex project, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the coordination, implementation and completion of a special project with a focus on industrialization ensuring consistency with strategy, commitments, and goals

  • Facilitates the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables

  • Defines project tasks and resource requirements

  • Implements structured software development and project management processes and practices

  • Monitors project costs and timelines; ensures project stays on track and within budget

  • Responsible for implementing robust risk management processes for the project

  • Implements and manages project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs

  • Tracks project deliverables using appropriate tools

  • Monitors and reports on progress of the project to all stakeholders

  • Provides quality assurance and quality control for work processes, products, and artifacts

  • Prepares and presents reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions

  • Liaises with other areas in the organization to secure specialized resources and contributions for the project as needed

  • Conducts project meetings and prepares reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team

  • Performs other duties as needed and will need to be to be flexible to work in a non-standard working environment

  • Industrial engineering responsibility (time & method study, layout engineering, process mapping, etc.)

  • Product maintenance responsibility and bill of material ( BOM ) management

Preferred experience and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred

  • Strong background in industrial engineering or supply chain management

  • Demonstrated understanding of product validation or process validation work

  • 5+ years knowledge of heavy equipment and automotive transportation industry preferred

  • 7+ years direct hands-on experience performing in the Project Manager role

  • Understanding of the truck sales process (TSP) is a plus

  • PMP Certification is a plus

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the use of project management methodologies, techniques, and tools, in particular experience using an industry standard software development quality framework

Necessary technical/functional/language skills

  • Product: ability to work with KOLA, handle and work with step files, TR’s and Protus

  • Business analytics: ability to work with BC calculations and manage product data and costing

  • Information Technology: Group Truck Operation’s Stripe systems portfolio and the understanding and ability to operate within the respective systems

  • Excellent planning, organization, critical thinking, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to oversee, coordinate and juggle multiple tasks and meet tough deadlines

  • People skills necessary to communicate and interact with senior managers and staff to successfully complete the activities outlined

  • Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand

  • Ability to work with appropriate parties to respond to and resolve crisis situations and oversee successful resolution

  • Must be production and accuracy-oriented and be flexible to business needs

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, kaizen methodology needed

  • Knowledge of existing class 8 product structure

  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others and to establish a professional working rapport

  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required

  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge and expertise with current Microsoft Office Suite
