Volvo Group Product Specialist in Radford, Virginia

The Product Specialist will work collaboratively within an innovative special project team. This position will perform various quality and process validations and will also assist with the physical assembly of new vehicle platform.

Essential Functions

  • Identify differences between establishment standards and user applications and suggest modifications to conform to standards

  • Ability to design and build assembly fixtures

  • Ability to assemble complete vehicle and associated sub-assemblies

  • Monitor program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation

  • Utilizes continuous improvement techniques for troubleshooting plant systems issues

  • Utilizes understanding of interactions between machine, materials, methods, environment, and people to provide robust operating systems

  • Gather and document technical specifications and content delivery requirements

  • Ability to work with next generation solutions that can support growing business requirements and adapt to changing needs

  • Assist in quality-related activities that add strategic value to the business

  • May establish standards and policies regarding pollution control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred experience and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering preferred or equivalent experience working in a production environment

  • 7+ years knowledge of heavy equipment and automotive transportation industry

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated lean manufacturing experience

Necessary technical/functional/language skills

  • Must be production and accuracy-oriented and be flexible to business needs

  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems and unit operations

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen methodologies preferred

  • Must be very hands on in all of the disciplines and be flexible to work in a non-standard working environment

  • Knowledge of existing class 8 product structure

  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
