Volvo Group Product Engineer in Radford, Virginia

This position leads the engineering functions for a product or a product family from design through production and transfer. Communicates with other engineering functions as necessary to include design, process, production, quality, and reliability. Analyzes production methods to ensure time and cost goals are reached. The product engineer plans and executes complete engineering design products or specific projects, from initial design concept through to production release and post-production support.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Formulate, recommend and implement the phases of a project to complete it within budget and to meet customer determined project milestones and completion target dates

  • Produce designs that are feasible and economical to produce in the manufacturing facilities and processes available

  • Provide alternative design solutions, analyses, justifications and recommendations at the concept stage

  • Facilitate selection of designs that achieve best possible trade-off of cost, timing, innovation, and performance

  • Analyzes production methods to ensure time and cost goals are reached

  • Assists in achievement of sale's targets through direct participation in customer presentation

  • Fulfilment of financial and operational KPI’s for product projects as required

Preferred experience and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar university degree or with equivalent work experience is required. MBA preferred

  • Two year experience or more in related positions of increasing responsibility in one or more of the above disciplines in a manufacturing environment

  • Combined education and relevant experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

Necessary technical/functional/language skills

  • Strong understanding of the Volvo Group Businesses is a plus.

  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required


  • Occasional travel is required
