Volvo Group Connected Solutions Innovation Lab is establishing a collaborative workspace in Silicon Valley and we are looking for a strong core team for that hub. Within the Innovation Lab we work differently compared to our corporate colleagues, we apply design thinking methodology to find desirable solutions by working with customers, academia, startups and other external partners. Role Overview

The Senior Innovation Manager will initiate and facilitate strategic cross-organizational collaborations involving external partners (startups, technology companies, public agencies, and academia) and relevant colleagues within the Volvo Group. Together with the core team you will identify promising innovation opportunities, scout for partners and drive creation and validation of new concepts. With the aim to improve user productivity and experience by drawing on digital technologies the team will find and demonstrate new business opportunities for Volvo Group. In this job it will be necessary to apply a dynamic, networked and rapid way of working as well as a passion to contribute with new value. For this team the focus is on getting stuff done, so we are looking for action oriented, curious and entrepreneurial individuals.

Core Responsibilities

  • Initiate and facilitate innovation projects

  • Work in cross-functional teams to explore customer needs and promising new technologies

  • Monitor technology developments and competitive landscapes in connectivity and digitalization domains

  • Engage relevant colleagues of the Volvo Group to successfully execute innovation projects

  • Build and manage strategic collaborations with external partners

  • Foster academic collaborations to engage in relevant R&D initiatives, and to recruit students for short-term projects, thesis work, internships and permanent employment

  • Generate messaging content from the innovation projects and drive internal and external communication

Required Competencies

  • Proven experience and understanding of design thinking methodology, business model canvas, lean start-up approach or similar frameworks

  • Passionate about creating new concepts; including hands-on prototyping, iteration and validation with users

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivated

  • Able to utilize data for decision making

  • Great at teamwork, both in small, local teams and in globally distributed teams

  • Must possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment with high level of ambiguity

  • Strong drive to make an impact

  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technology preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.

  • Master’s Degree is a plus.

Experience Required

  • Ideally 5+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Background in Transportation and Logistics, Construction, Mining or Transit Operations

  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, manage multiple clients, and provide consultative skills throughout the process.

  • Ideal candidate will be highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
