Volvo Group Intern: Human Resources (Fall 2018) in Middletown, Pennsylvania


The Human Resources Intern will be responsible for coordinating multiple major initiatives to be rolled-out during the Fall term. Key skills required will be Access database experience which includes creating a database from scratch and creating reports for the database. The Intern may also be asked to participate in recruitment and onboarding activities, as well as other HR-related activities as needed. This Intern will be mentored by a Human Resources professional located in Middletown, PA.

Position Purpose

The Human Resources Intern role provides the student with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the student's career goals through contact with professionals in his/her field of study. The Intern experience enables students to participate in professional activities by working on important and innovative projects for the Human Resources function.

The Intern position is for the Fall of 2018, and the specific work days and hours will be flexible, but agreed upon with the hiring manager.

Core Responsibilities

Labor Relations Tracking

  • Review existing Labor Relations tracking methods and revise, update and/or propose new tracking methods

  • Convert all manual tracking processes to electronic

  • Cross reference and confirm all tracking methods against requirements of applicable labor contracts

Personnel Files

  • Revamp the filing system for personnel files

  • Convert personnel files to electronic format

  • Prepare and ship data to off-site storage facility in accordance with the company’s retention policy


  • Evaluate the current Attendance Tracking System and develop, implement and train staff on the new process (Access Database experience will be required)

  • Scan attendance sheets and save electronically

Essential Skills and Minimum Education Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a BA/BS degree in Human Resources or Business Management, or a related field, at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the Internship

  • Applicants should be interested in pursuing a professional career in Human Resources

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0

  • Experience prioritizing work effectively and being multi-task-focused in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven interpersonal communication skills

  • Applicants must be fully proficient in reading, writing and speaking English

  • Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, advanced Access experience required, Word, and PowerPoint)

Expected Commitment

This Intern will be required to work up to 20 hours per week during the Fall 2018 semester.
