Volvo Group Packaging Engineer in Macungie, Pennsylvania

Purpose/Description

To continuously improve Mack performance in the areas of Quality, Delivery, and Total Cost through the use of improved packaging and various logistics methods.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support of functional departments such as 3P, Materials, Transportation, Engineering, Supplier Base, Quality, etc. to provide technical assistance on all packaging related issues

  • Support of plant Engineers to provide technical assistance

  • Implement and maintain best in class industry practices and processes

  • Establish and maintain guidelines and functional specifications

  • Provide supplier education to both internal and external suppliers/customers as required

  • Create and maintain departmental packaging information systems

  • Communicate and maintain procedures for packaging analysis, justification and implementation utilizing “Total Cost” concepts

  • Develop, monitor, and adjust BP budgets as required

  • Lead and facilitate cross functional teams when needed dealing with packaging

  • Coordinate for line-side storage and ergonomic considerations

Critical Competencies

  • Support of functional departments such as Materials, Transportation, Supply Base to provide technical and practical assistance on all packaging related issues which includes implementation of new/revised packaging, Quality.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • 1-3 years of automotive industry packaging and/or logistic experience preferred

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications

  • CAD, Sketchup, other similar 3D electronic drafting experience

  • Good communication and analytical skills
