Volvo Group Health & Safety Supervisor in Macungie, Pennsylvania


Provide supervision to the team organization to assure employee Health and Safety in daily operations. Implement and support H&S programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and Corporate/LVO policies to reduce work-related injuries and provide a safe and healthy work environment.


  • Implement and monitor health & safety programs that ensure protection of health, provide a safe workplace and comply with applicable regulations and company policies. (40%)

  • Conduct facility inspections and audits measure compliance with H&S programs and ensure corrective measures are taken if required. (15%)

  • Record and analyse accident, injury, & near miss data and trends and propose data driven H&S methods and programs to mitigate hazards and risk. (10%)

  • Work with UAW/Management ergonomic team to evaluate work-station design and tooling to ensure sound ergonomics practices. (10%)

  • Become familiar with H&S section of UAW labor agreement to ensure company compliance with agreement language. (5%)

  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene surveys to ensure exposure levels are within acceptable limits and provide the necessary protection of employees. (5%)

  • Provide training in accordance with regulatory requirements and company directives. (5%)

  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee and Joint Ergonomics Committee. (5%)

  • Manage SDS and chemicals labelling program. (5%)


Technical Competencies:

  • Understanding of OSHA regulations, NFPA fire code as they apply in an industrial setting

  • Knowledgeable of industrial chemicals and industrial hygiene sampling equipment

  • Knowledgeable of manufacturing processes and ability to utilize policies, practices, trends, and tactics to accomplish business objectives within a complex organization

  • Familiar with OHSAS18001 management system and general ergonomics principles

  • Experienced in a team-based Kaizen and 5S environment and Lean Manufacturing concepts

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude under pressure and manage change

  • Effectively, accurately and understandably communicate and actively seek feedback

  • Taking action without specific instructions and taking reasonable risks to achieve results

  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting projects and tenacity to drive long term projects to a successful conclusion


  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related subject

  • 7-10 years’ experience

  • Master's degree or a professional designation preferred (OHST, ASP, or CSP)

  • 5+ years of management experience

  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication

  • Basic computer skills with both word processing and database applications

  • Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs
