Volvo Group Embedded Software Production Engineer in Macungie, Pennsylvania


Support and maintain the Embedded Software (ESW) production process according to the global GTO standards and best practices, with the goal of meeting plant KPI’s. Being responsible for safety, quality, delivery, and cost of the production process.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve in a Production Engineer (PE) role in the ESW (Embedded Software) area

  • The individual follows the direction of Unit Manger – Manufacturing Engineering and coordinates the business plan with peers

  • Maintain the production methods, standards, tooling and equipment for ESW process and tools (PROSIT, ETT, DYNO, VEPS);

  • Active participation in ESW LTS network, escalate plants needs to the LTS network

  • Assist ESW maintenance technicians with troubleshooting ESW tools & systems

  • Troubleshoot software, electronic and electrical product related issues, discovered during the assembly process

  • Promote manufacturing safety and efficiency through implementation of method/process change, ergonomic application and safety awareness

  • Develop cost saving proposals and improve productivity

  • Development of future engineering solutions to lowest possible cost and with flexibility for product and volume changes;

  • Assist with necessary counselling, training, and discipline to obtain the optimum effectiveness of the team

  • Assist with implementing Product & Industrial projects with zero disturbances mind-set

  • Drive and master 5S principles throughout all activities.

Critical Technical Competencies

  • Wiring diagrams/schematic reading skills.

  • Basic understanding of the truck electronic/electric architecture:

  • Electronic Control Units (ECU) and peripheral input devices and output devices.

  • OBD II specification, DTCs.

  • Automotive communication protocol and standards (SAE, CAN).

  • Truck electrics and wiring harnesses.

  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, manufacturing, the product, production standards and efficiency optimization tools, process oriented.

  • Preferably: knowledge of production tools and systems for embedded systems diagnostic and testing, ECU programming tools, electrical troubleshooting tools.

  • Preferably: basic understanding of C programming language (preferably).

  • Multitasking and ability to work with various problems coming from different areas of the assembly process

  • Proven ability to visualize future opportunities, plan action items towards successful completion of company objectives

  • Problem Solving/Decision Making: Taking a well-ordered approach to solving problems and acting despite obstacles, resistance or ambiguity

  • Communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to manage change

  • Proven ability to react to issues impacting production with a sense of urgency, promptly assessing the issue and developing a feasible action plan and following it through to successful completion

  • Experience in a team-based environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Possesses strong analytical skills and demonstrated focus on process and Lean Manufacturing concepts.

  • Excellent skills in Excel, Power Point and Word.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Preferably: 0-2 years of automotive industry manufacturing experience or equivalent with a focus on engineering and production.

  • Preferably: Manufacturing experience within Embedded Software, testing tools and methods for Embedded Software.
