Volvo Group Customer Adaptation Designer in Macungie, Pennsylvania

Role Mission

The purpose of this job is to provide customer adaptation design and professional support as a fully competent designer in engineering technical areas in the Customer Engineering department to complete truck orders. The Customer Adaptation Designer will provide support to senior designers and engineers in engineering support tasks that vary from routine to complex assignments and/or include bill of material solutions for the final truck assembly in the factory.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Customer Adaptation Designer in one or more engineering areas

  • Plan and perform projects to develop and document customer adaptation solutions within area of assignment. Heavy emphasis is placed on quality/accuracy, accountability, and adherence to formal internal and external standards, procedures, and processes

  • Use CAD skills to serve as a design and/or CAD resource in primary area of assignment or in support of a larger project as needed


Technical Competencies

  • Design Skills: Understanding and applying basic engineering design knowledge in schematics and diagrams, materials and surface treatment requirements, packaging and dimensional requirements and manufacturing process requirements

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Applying working knowledge of basic mechanical principles and 2D/3D spacial visualization to perform job successfully

  • Computer Skills: Using company proprietary information technology software and MS Excel, Word, and Outlook to retrieve, organize and convey information and communication necessary to complete the job

  • Attention to Detail: Monitoring adherence to standards and actively checking for accuracy of data received or generated before passing it on

  • Critical and Analytical Thinking: Using reasoning and mental agility to analyze information, recognize patterns/connections between data and information and draw logical conclusions to perform job successfully

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Technology or related engineering field; Associates degree at the minimum is required

  • Late 2018 graduates will be considered depending on experience

  • Two (2) years of Automotive or related experience is a plus

  • CAD, Automotive, Creo and/or Catia experience or training is preferred
