Volvo Group Performance and Emissions Calibration Engineer in Hagerstown, Maryland

Volvo Group Trucks Technology is seeking an engine calibration Engineer to support the Powertrain Engineering organization located in Hagerstown, MD. This role will be responsible for powertrain testing and calibration of heavy duty engines for MACK and Volvo North American applications. Responsibilities may include calibration of fueling and boost systems as well as on board diagnostics (OBD) of powertrain systems. This position will require time spent in engine test cells, chassis dynamometer and on-road vehicle testing.

Responsibilities/ Main tasks

  • Operation of world class heavy duty engine test cells. Responsible for efficiently and accurately executing test procedures while concurrently reviewing testing results to ensure reliability of data

  • Daily communication with technicians and senior engineers is required to coordinate activities from multiple stakeholders and insure requirements are clearly defined and tests meet objectives

  • Perform testing to achieve product certification and confirm compliance for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resource Board (CARB) for powertrain emissions and OBD

  • Infrequent travel is likely in order to support troubleshooting customer trucks in service, participate in expeditions such as summer, cold weather and high altitude chassis tests

  • Broad responsibilities and exposure to powertrain systems and senior engineers offers great opportunity for growth

Experience and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • 0-3+ years relevant experience in powertrain calibration

  • Powertrain (Engine, Transmission, Axle, Aftertreatment) knowledge is beneficial

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Enjoys working in teams and developing relationships with peers

  • Experience with Engine Calibration tools such as ATI Vision or similar, Matlab, Simulink, GT Power, Data Acquisition and data analysis tools preferred
