Volvo Group Vehicle Geometrical Architect (Senior Engineer) in Greensboro, North Carolina
The purpose of this job is to provide Vehicle Geometrical Architecture to support to engineering to fulfill the following:
Serves as a specialist within the Vehicle Geometrical Architect area, requiring limited direction and supervision
Supports the Lead Architects in planning, developing and completing complex packaging projects in CAD within an area of assignment
Heavy emphasis is placed on expertise; knowledge; originality; analysis; and significant collaboration within internal departments and external organizations
Serves as a consultant/contact worldwide for their areas of expertise
Authority to take the necessary measures in order to accomplish imposed responsibility
Support the chassis drawing process by ensuring content is updated and maintained
Support projects and requirement owners with calculating and balancing overall vehicle dimension requirements

Deliver quality secured geometry towards the projects. To solve packaging / geometry issues between different commodities. This includes geometric support to tolerances, main dimensions and bodybuilder suitability
Set up the cross functional packaging organization and Packaging Issue Log (PIL) within start cost projects
Propose solutions for complete offer scenario / packaging to meet application and customer requirements
Discuss strategies with Platform management, and commodities for long term road map of the architecture of his area
Analyze and propose common solutions that can support all brands in order to minimize part numbers and maximize common parts (CAST)
Maintain awareness of other projects which may impact current projects or areas of authority
Give input regarding geometrical matters to stakeholders (Global Manufacturing, Aftermarket and commodities (ex. Cab, Chassis, Electrical, Powertrain), from a complete vehicle perspective
Show progress (by PIL) and status for all geometry related activities
Identify A-interface impacts and balance project geometrical requirements with platform requirements according to A-interface process whilst reducing diversity if possible
Drive Digital Mock-up (DMU structure) deliveries according to DMU logic
Ensure the PAP deliveries for their area of authority and input to Lead GA / Architect prior to each gate
Prepare the knowledge management document for their area
WHO ARE YOU?
Minimum Bachelor’s degree
ProE/Creo experience required, with focus on large assembly management
A degree of experience with tooling and part check/inspection fixtures is beneficial
At least 5 years of experience in automotive engineering product development projects
A firm understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing philosophy and applications
Have a good ability to communicate both in written and spoken English
Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products
Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally
