Volvo Group Regional Security Director - North America in Greensboro, North Carolina

Key areas of responsibility

In the region and under the lead of Group Global Security Officer and Senior Security Director Americas support the delivery of security services for the protection of Volvo Group’s people, information and assets in the region. In the region functional support local security, conduct/support security investigations, and contribute to the development and delivery of Global Security strategy, programs and priorities and the response to incidents. To be a part of Global Security's network where all support each other and act as a back-up for other regions when needed.

  • Response against security incidents

  • Identify and evaluate threats, vulnerabilities and consequent risks to VG personnel, information, products and assets

  • Implement and develop security coordinators scheme and services in line with Global Security’s strategy and priorities

  • Respond to requests for advice and assistance from function and line management by means of security visits, surveys, investigations and briefings

  • Develop and maintain security awareness, education and training including running seminars and workshops

  • Develop and maintain effective relations with business management and develop security accountability and professionalism

  • Develop and maintain appropriate liaison with law enforcement, intelligence and regulatory agencies

  • Develop and maintain appropriate contacts with security practitioners in other commercial sectors

  • Conduct Security investigations work as assigned

Main job tasks

Risk management

  • Support the development and manage the implementation, and continuous refinement of security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security protocols

  • Provide subject matter expertise on regional security issues to senior management for the benefit of all operations (including establishment of new sites and physical security of sites)

  • Establish a culture of security awareness and prevent security incidents

  • Play a central role from a security focus in the development and updating of the business continuity and business recovery plans

  • Establish and maintain intelligence networks and relationships regionally with law enforcement and other related government/intelligence agencies. Gather regional intelligence to understand, identify and address any threats against the company.

  • Provide proactive leadership on emerging security issues and threats as warranted by current events and trends

  • Produce regular reports on security program operations, incidents, and compliance to the Group Security Officer, the Senior Security Director and regional business leadership

  • Oversee key outsourced security vendors to ensure delivery of high quality and cost-effective services and products

Protective Services

  • Establish security instructions, procedures and education

  • Conduct internal and external (towards VG) criminal investigations

  • Support background investigations of individuals applying for employment and others who seek a business relationship

  • Quality control of Volvo Group local security set up

  • Support and conduct site reviews of the security operations in the region

  • Support security risk evaluations and sites annual risk assessment

  • Recommend security risk mitigation actions

  • Support the Executive Protection program

  • Support programs in how to safeguard confidential material

  • Roll out a program for “Users to understand the value and sensitivity of the information created, received, stored, shared and destroyed and the consequences of failing to protect it”

Product Security

  • Supporting Volvo Group anti-illegal product programs

  • Conduct investigations of counterfeit, illegal diversion and product theft cases

  • Participate in external security working groups permanent and/or ad hoc

  • Cooperate with authorities and law enforcement agencies

Crisis Management and Travel Security

  • Implement a travel and event security program

  • Develop, establish and train personnel in local crisis response teams

  • Participate in external security working groups permanent and/or ad hoc

  • Secure immediate response and information to travelers in crisis emergency situations

  • Act as security adviser in the event of a crisis, in close cooperation with the local crisis management team

Qualifications and competencies

  • In the assigned area, the incumbent must be viewed as the regional security expert. It is a vital function, and it is important to be able to network to be successful in this role. He/she must be able to work through others.

  • Must be able to build and maintain a network of individuals and act as spokesperson and local adviser on security issues. In addition needs to have the capability to work with resources on a regional management and site level

  • The incumbent will participate in campaigns with law enforcement and industry bodies to improve public sector agencies’ response to crime. Access to public enforcement communities - at a national level is challenging by the nature of the work. Therefore the job holder must be a highly credible and experienced professional in order to engage these communities and successfully articulate and win proper support for the Company’s position and expectations

  • The position holder require knowledge about different cultures, practices and procedures in the countries

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a protective security practitioner, a minimum of 3 years of which are at a senior level with strategic responsibilities. The incumbent will typically have a law enforcement, or intelligence background and a CPP certification or comparable education (or combination of these)

  • Wide technical, practical and legal background based on minimum 5 years of experience within the police or intelligence service

  • Organizational and managerial experience in a global company and a minimum 3 years of security experience

  • Professional and documented experience to build security program that will be clearly recognized as a good pragmatic operation

  • Demonstrate ability to manage outsourced operations

  • Experience from project management

  • Experience of leading a regional investigations operation
