Volvo Group Regional Buyer Americas in Greensboro, North Carolina


This position is responsible for implementation of global sourcing strategies and projects, systems and processes in the North America Region. It will drive operational efficiency at a regional level and be the purchasing interface with Volvo Group partners and suppliers in this Region.

Scope & Influence

The Regional Buyer Americas reports directly to the Director of Americas Logistics Purchasing and will be a member of the Purchasing network within the Americas. The Regional Buyer will work within the guidelines established within the Purchasing function of Group Truck Operations and Production Logistics.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage general tenders for all logistics modes within the region, including: RFI's & RFQ's analysis and evaluation, suppliers meetings and negotiations, contracts issues

  • Manage Ad Hoc quotation within the region

  • Responsible for local & regional purchasing of transportation & logistics services for assigned commodities & geographical area

  • Represent Logistics Purchasing in regional site meetings

  • Act as the first purchasing point of contact with partners and colleagues

  • Work with global systems and processes in the region

  • Drive purchasing efficiency in the region

  • Drive continuous improvements in contracts management during their validity

  • Deliver the agreed and committed objectives for the region

  • Manage the commercial relationship with specified suppliers

  • Promote and monitor the application of the required ethics & standards of integrity

  • Manage regional business intelligence, (continuously follow up, consider and share knowledge about the evolution of costs & trends within the transportation and logistics sector with particular focus within the regions)

  • Ensure the fulfillment of KPI's within the assigned scope

  • Identify and design innovative logistics solutions and contractual prospective in the region

  • In full coordination with the Commodity purchasers, develop and implement global Commodity sourcing strategy within regions

  • In full cooperation with Commodity purchasers, support and participate in commodity sourcing projects by providing local & regional requirements and market knowledge

  • Handle the relationship with the global supplier representatives in the regions for assigned commodities

  • Take part in local projects driven by the regional Projects organization

  • Perform supplier evaluations

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of North America region (markets, transport and logistics innovations)

  • Understanding of transport and commercial vehicles industries and business analysis

  • Purchasing knowledge in all modes of transport and logistics with proven experience

  • Knowledge of freight payment terms and impacts from the freight costs

  • As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required

  • Proficiency in the Spanish language would be a plus

  • Must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively within a multi-cultural and international environment

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work effectively with multiple tasks

  • Strong communication, networking and negotiation skills

  • Proactive and flexible mindset

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and Internationally as required

  • Must be proficient in MS Office

Minimum Education Required

  • University degree preferably in Logistics Transportation, Business Administration or Engineering or related experience

  • MBA would be a plus

Minimum Years of Experience Required

  • 5 years of related experience
