Features, Verification & Validation is a global organization using deep customer knowledge to break down customer features into technical requirements. We drive validation plans to reach the requested feature level and secure end customer satisfaction. We also manage the verification plans thanks to world class physical and virtual tests on the complete vehicle such as durability testing in rigs, fuel economy testing, reliability testing with customers and a variety of simulations and tests with trucks on proving grounds and open roads. There is now an opportunity for you to join us in the Vehicle Features team as a Feature Leader for Fuel Economy, Average Speed and Drivability.

As a Principal Engineer, you are responsible for the Feature Driving Performance, you are expected to define, verify, tune and validate the feature performance according to the project requirements agreed and documented in contracts. Your main goal will be to reach, sustain and strengthen a leading position on heavy duty trucks in North America


  • Define and maintain brand specific Fuel Economy, Average Speed and Drivability targets

  • Propose quantified objectives and translate the feature needs into main measurable requirements for the feature and distribute them into technical requirements to Vehicle Modules

  • Estimate risks for feature deliveries and, needs for verification actions and tests support (virtual testing, parts, mules, prototypes), including ensuring adequate budget and resources

  • Define and sign off the feature contract

  • Set up verification and validation plans for the feature and report on their progress during feature reviews

  • Conduct an objective evaluation of the feature and deliver feature status reports previous to the gates' opening, including approvals or proposals and requests for modifications

  • Customer correlation to test methods

  • Development of requirements and test methods

  • Work cross functionally with groups in FVV to ensure all the Project feature targets are met

  • Build and maintain long term feature roadmaps for products in collaboration with Brand Management, Marketing and Product planning groups

  • Participate in the Global Feature Network and Greensboro Local feature Team Network

  • Propose and lead Advanced Engineering actions related to the particular features

  • Engaged in related industry activities and developments, and engaged in Volvo councils and forums as necessary

Additional Information

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Experience/Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering,

  • 12 years’ engineering experience (including 2 years fuel economy related – testing, simulation, CFD, statistical analysis, DAQ, data analysis etc )

  • Current holder or desire to hold CDL required

  • Proficient spoken and written English

Experience/Skills Desired

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering or higher

  • Experience working with high performing teams

  • 5 years’ Leadership experience with Heavy duty truck or Automotive Fuel Economy

  • Experience with FE testing (On-road, wind tunnel, dyno, coast down)

  • Data acquisition and data post processing experience

  • Simulation tool experience (eg. FE simulation, CFD, etc)

  • Liaison with regulatory and industry groups related to FE

  • Testing Strategy including Design of experiments, statistical analysis etc.
