Volvo Group Logistics Development Engineer in Greensboro, North Carolina

Position Summary

The Logistics Development Engineering role is a crucial function within Production Logistics in North America, responsible for optimizing millions of dollars in freight for all of our Manufacturing plants and distribution centers. This role is equally challenging and rewarding, allowing great visibility within Volvo given the organization’s focus on transport cost efficiency and stability.

Mission: Design smart transport set-ups for the Volvo Group with an end to end supply chain approach.

Main Activities

  • Lead optimization activities of Volvo’s transport network in North America with close collaboration with our manufacturing plants and other internal and external stakeholders

  • Explore new trends and technologies to strengthen our supply chain optimization capabilities

  • Explore innovative transport network strategies to minimize our environmental impact

  • Support product development projects providing input regarding logistics costs and transport operations impact

  • Design and implement changes related to product development projects

  • Perform landed cost calculations

  • Use scientific and mathematical models to ensure the best balance between service level, transport costs and inventory

  • Lead and support projects related to transport bids and manage hand off to operational functions

  • Create and manage tools to identify cost saving opportunities and adapt transport network to volume variations

  • Cooperate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure demands and needs of our production facilities and end customers are met

  • Use the following data sources to support reports and analysis: MS Office, Business Map Pro, Batch Mark, ATLAS (Oracle based transport system)

  • Support product development projects

Minimum Education/Experience Required

  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration or similar concentration.

  • 5+ years experience in logistics, industrial engineering or supply chain roles
