Volvo Group Employee and Labor Relations Manager in Greensboro, North Carolina

Mission/Purpose of Job

Responsible for assisting with implementation, coordination, and development of policies, procedures, and processes for Employee and Labor Relations, including collective bargaining negotiations and whistle blower investigations. The scope of responsibility is for all Volvo Group Companies in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director, Employee & Labor Relations in developing and implementing comprehensive and unified employee and labor relations strategic plan that supports Company business objectives in the United States

  • Provides leadership in developing a positive employee relations program for non-represented facilities in the United States

  • Represents the company in grievance meetings as required

  • Assists with preparation and planning for U.S. labor negotiations

  • Participates in all U.S. labor negotiations

  • Administer the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)

  • Provide training, advice, and guidance to management and support organizations on issues related to the collective bargaining agreement

  • Developing and implementing process improvements related to labor relations

  • Administer progressive discipline process

  • Oversee grievance resolution process, participating in arbitration matters, as required

  • Provide coaching and consultation for the development of an effective working relationship between labor and management

  • Ensure consistent administration and interpretation of plant rules, policies, and procedures

  • Provide consultation and support regarding staffing/talent selection and training development

  • Supports the Director, Employee & Labor Relations in investigating whistle blower and similar cases, working with HR Business Partners, the US HR Cen Center of Expertise, Legal Department, and Corporate Audit

Critical Competencies

  • Strong negotiations skills, particularly in a union bargaining situation

  • Knowledge of U.S. labor and employment law practices

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including listening, presentation, group facilitation, influencing, and negotiations skills

  • Effective use of mediation and conflict resolution techniques

Minimum Education Required

  • Business Degree in Labor Relations, Management, Business, Human Resources or related field

Minimum Years of Experience Required

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Labor Relations and/or Human Resources

  • Prior experience with Contract Negotiations, Grievance Resolution, including Arbitration

Other Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Thorough knowledge of current US employment law and HR professional practices

  • Frequent travel required
