Volvo Group Public Affairs Advisor in Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal, Regulatory & Public Affairs and External Communications, the Public Affairs Advisor will develop public affairs strategies to further aims and objectives of Nova Bus and Prevost in North America. Importantly you will directly represent the company to elected officials, their staff members of the government as well as to representatives of public transit agencies. You will provide reactive and proactive research and advice on political and parliamentary issues.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend appropriate tactics for effective engagement to raise awareness and strengthen our reputation with key policy makers, transit agencies and the public in general

  • Researching, forecasting and evaluating the effects of public policy on an organization, using public sources, political intelligence and personal contacts

  • Attending conferences, committees meetings and other public events

  • Maintaining regular contact, in person and in writing, with elected officials and/or staff in local authorities and regulatory bodies to brief them on clients’ work, priorities and concerns

  • Establish positive relationship with multiple and varied stakeholders

  • Track the progress of bills, trade agreements and other parliamentary activity

  • Carry out any other duties and projects appropriate to the post as required by the company

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related discipline

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in public relations and corporate communications

  • Extensive knowledge of public relations strategies and protocols

Knowledge and skills

  • A strong interest in, and enthusiasm for, politics, policy issues and business development

  • Ability to assimilate, analyze and summarize written material quickly

  • Time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Strong personal credibility and integrity

  • Commercial awareness in order to attract new business

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate successfully in a team setting, as well as ability to build and maintain relationships while influencing peers

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in English; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

  • Advanced social media marketing skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel across North America as needed
