The internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the graduate's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The internship experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Penta by working on important and innovative projects. Internships are structured learning experiences where interns and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Penta.

The Purchasing Support Intern will be responsible for providing assistance to the Purchasing team with updates and priority projects.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support Sourcing Projects for Americas

  • Assist the Americas Purchasers in activities related to data collection and report development for the logistics sourcing projects

  • Participate in supplier and internal team meetings

  • Standardized Work Documentation-Prepare and document the work analysis into standard templates

  • Sourcing Project Work Presentation-The sourcing

Project work will be reviewed and presented to Team Members and Managers to ensure that the organization understands the outcomes.

Method of Performance Evaluation or Supervision for this program:

  • Performance feedback from the supervisor. Also, intern will make a presentation on this assignment to the Engineering management team at the end of assignment

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong verbal and written communication and telephone skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and an acute attention to detail

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite to include PowerPoint, Word and Excel is required

  • Analytical skills

  • An eagerness to learn, ability to work independently, and readiness for responsibility

  • Applicants should be interested in pursuing a professional career in Purchasing

  • Participation in school or extracurricular activities and experience in leadership roles is a plus

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Applicants must be current students that are scheduled to graduate after May 2018

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a BA/BS degree in Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management, at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship

  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Additional Requirements:

  • Intern must provide their own transportation to work

  • Intern must provide their own living accommodations in the local area
