Role Mission

The Field Service Engineer is accountable for all service, technical support and warranty activities within an assigned geographical area of responsibility for both Marine and Industrial products. In this role, the Field Service Engineer assists our Dealer customer base in determining methods to maintain and/ or improve the competency level of each within Volvo Penta.

Area of Responsibility

Northeast . This is a field-based position. The candidate for this position should be located in the Northeast Region of the US, near a major airport.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite technical support to dealers as assigned by the VPA Chesapeake office to resolve customer concerns as well as ensure technicians receive necessary onsite training to handle repeat concerns

  • Investigate product complaints and make onsite decisions to promptly resolve them within VPA guidelines

  • Investigate reported safety incidents and report findings to VPA management

  • Encourage all dealers to respond favorably and in a timely manner to communications sent from Volvo Penta (campaigns, recalls, etc.). Direct Dealer to the appropriate department within VPA to address their concerns

  • Submit case details on product quality concerns. Process warranty authorizations in a timely manner

  • VPPN Navigation training to include master user setup and updating, adding/removing dealership employees, updating dealer list

  • Provide instructor-led product training as scheduled. Promote Volvo Penta eLearning’s throughout the Dealer organization both administrative and technical. Responsible for maintaining Dealer technical certifications through Volvo Penta instructor-led trainings

  • Provide assistance with Global Training Academy navigation and set-up, running training reports, and reinforcing training requirements as well as the advantages of having trained technicians

  • Promote and support original Volvo Penta parts sales and dealer incentive programs

  • Represent Volvo Penta service at assigned boat shows and dealer meetings

  • Promote brand awareness through Volvo Penta advertisement, signage, website familiarity, and merchandise

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Strong mechanical & electronic expertise in troubleshooting repair, overhaul and installation of Volvo Penta Marine and/or Industrial products

  • In-depth knowledgeable of Marine and Industrial retail sales and service trade practices

  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products (Power Point, Excel, Word etc.)

  • High ability to work independently without direct supervision, and manage multiple objectives and cases at one time

  • Ability to advise and mentor others regarding customer service techniques

  • Bilingual (English/French), preferred

Education & Exper ience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum (5) five years Marine and/or Industrial retail trade experience

  • Technical Certificates preferred
