Volvo Group Manager VPS and Quality in Charlotte, North Carolina
Volvo Powertrain Remanufacturing Charlotte, NC is looking for the right candidate with an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering background to lead the Volvo Production System (VPS) implementation, and take full ownership of the Quality focus area.
VPS is the lean management system adopted by Volvo Group Truck Operations teams. The right candidate must be able to multitask, set priorities, and lead projects in this very small local organization. The right candidate must have a holistic view and be very comfortable at the gemba, and be very shop floor oriented.
The position is part of the Charlotte Reman Technologies management team and reports directly to the Site Director.
Mission/purpose of the job
The primary purpose of the job for the selected individual will be to establish a roadmap for local implemention and integration of VPS to the global organization
To enhance the understanding of VPS among the local management team, and making VPS a part of daily work activities and reaching world class (gold) levels in all focus areas
To maintain full responsibility for the quality focus area within VPS
To promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement within the Charlotte Remanufacturing organization
Scope of Responsibility
Learn and understand the VPS tools and to comprehend all VPS focus areas and promote the “lean thinking” education of all the employees and champion ‘lean thinking’ culture by providing training, lead workshops, coaching, and networking activities to support the roadmap implementation
To be the owner of the Quality focus area within VPS, be responsible for quality assurance and take responsibility for quality initiatives, related activities and projects, own and work with non-conformities, and assume the role of ISO Quality Representative
Keep time plan and participate in internal and external ISO audits, support regional and global functions with Management Review information
Manage a small team responsible for participation in the global reman quality/engineering network, bill of material maintenance, process flow, work instruction development, and failure analysis as identified by customer claims
To liase with and absorb the competence and support from Centers of Expertise in product engineering, and to be responsibility for cascading this knowledge into the local production process in the form of work place organization and early equipment management
Minimum Skills, Education, and Experience
Bachelor of Science or Arts in Business Administration, Engineering, Production or other related degree, or 5 – 7 years’ equivalent experience
5 to 10 years of experience in production (remanufacturing a strong plus) or other related areas
Experience in working with quality systems (ISO 9000 & 14000), organizational development and lean thinking
Demonstrate leadership abilities, formal training in leading by influence, communication, and people skills is valuable
Experience in change management and demonstrated ability to challenge an organization, while further developing a strong company culture and atmosphere in alignment with the Volvo Way and the Code of Conduct
Demonstrate solid ability to network and build collaboration through networking
Knowledge in management systems, ERP, and documentation structure
Preferred experience and knowledge
Formal ASQ or TQM Quality certification (CMQ/OE, CQE, MBB)
ISO 9000 Lead Auditor Certification (2015)
Necessary technical/functional/language skills
As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively within a multi-cultural and international environment
Willing to travel domestically and internationally (occasional)
Proficiency in MS Office
