Volvo Group HR Manager Remanufacturing in Charlotte, North Carolina

Volvo Powertrain Remanufacturing is looking for a part time (<30hrs/wk) Human Resource Manager to provide strategic and operational human resources support to the Charlotte, NC (non-union) site. This position will have the overall responsibility to secure local and global HR initiatives, and will be responsible for the focus area of People Development as a part of the Volvo Production System.

The Volvo Production System (VPS) is the lean management system adopted by Volvo Group Truck Operations teams. The candidate must be able to multitask, set priorities, and lead training in this very small local organization. The right candidate must have a holistic view and be very comfortable at the gemba, and be very shop floor oriented.

The position is part of the Charlotte Reman Technologies management team and reports directly to the Site Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate within the Remanufacturing site leadership team and the Global Volvo Powertrain HR Network to understand and assure alignment of management actions with Volvo Group values and principles, and to adhere to employment-related company policies and practices as well as federal and local regulations

  • Support employee competence development through establishment of a comprehensive training curriculum/development plan for both the leadership team and the blue collar teams; organizing and/or leading the training workshops. Leadership curriculum should include understanding of legal and social requirements including implementation of strategies and policies regarding compensation and benefits, employee relations, competence and performance management

  • Support efficient recruiting by maintaining comprehensive position descriptions and assist managers with interviewing skills, employee selection, and introduction practices for on-boarding new employees. Establishment of efficient processes and target leadtime reductions for recruiting

  • Monitor and support the leadership team with employee retention strategies involving effective organizational planning, individual personal and business development plans, compensation planning, and employee attitude survey follow up

  • Support management in the roll out of new organization policies, initiatives and strategies

Minimum Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related discipline or equivalent experience

  • 7-10 years’ experience in human resources within a manufacturing/production environment preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of US employment law and HR professional practices

  • Coaching, facilitation, and advising skills to help drive transformation, foster diversity and change in the organization

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including effective presentation skills and teaching and training skills for competence and people development. The ability to interact comfortably at all levels of the organization

  • Good knowledge in lean manufacturing principles and of the role of people development in lean organizations

  • Must demonstrate strong personal credibility and integrity

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of flexibility and ability to network effectively across a diverse organization and to build relationships across functional and geographical areas

  • Must have ability to facilitate meetings with diverse groups, resolve conflicts and support resolution to a positive outcome

  • Must have ability to coach managers and employees in handling various employment and management related issues

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • HR Certification is highly regarded

Necessary Technical/Functional/Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively within a multi-cultural and international environment.

  • Proficiency in the English language is required.

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally (occasional).

  • Proficiency in MS Office
