Accountabilities - Transmission Disassembler

  • Disassembles transmission assemblies and sub components parts for blasting and cleaning.

  • Maintains assigned equipment

  • Housekeeping of equipment and facilities

Principal Position Activities

All employees are responsible for the quality of their work and customer satisfaction, and are expected to engage in active continuous improvement. Knowledge and understanding of workplace 5S and problem solving is required to prevent and correct situations that could reduce quality and customer satisfaction.

In addition to the following main duties for which this position is accountable, others may be performed as required:

  • Disassembles major and sub components for cleaning

  • Maintains staging areas for receiving core and delivers materials to cleaning process

  • Further disassembles certain sub-components

  • Determines most efficient process for disassembling parts based on size, material, condition to limit all damage and insure reusability

  • Inspects parts for cracks and damages and records on parts requests forms

  • Works with supervisor and machine shop to evaluate questionable parts

  • Processes scrap orders as required to limit cost of rebuild

  • Maintains equipment and work station and keeps in operating condition

  • Responsible for housekeeping of work area

  • Logs time per job (work order) either manually or in computer system

Job Skill Set

  • High school diploma, Vocational certificate or equivalent experience

  • Positive attitude, good communication skills, and willing to learn and share knowledge with others

  • Punctual, self-motivated, independent, and strong team player

  • Understands concepts of lean, 5S, and problem solving

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure

  • Good mechanical knowledge and working knowledge of general machinery and equipment. Understanding of transmission function desired

  • Basic use of hand and air tools and torque equipment

  • Ability to operate forklift and general shop equipment, including cranes

  • Basic computer skills. Proficiency in proprietary ERP systems (Visual, SAP, IFS or equivalent) a plus


  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50lbs occasionally

  • Safety glasses required while grinding, steaming, using blow nozzles or around others performing similar tasks

  • Safety glasses required in cleaning building at all times

  • Safety precautions to be taken around machine shop equipment, special tools, hazardous material, forklifts and overhead cranes

  • Special attention to noise levels, hearing protection required

  • High level of alertness at all times
