Service Market Logistics (SML) is seeking outstanding college graduates interested in a rewarding career by joining our Supply Chain Management (SCM) Trainee/Development Program as a Front Line Manager. Our objective is to attract, develop and retain top talent in all areas of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This 24-month program is for highly qualified and motivated individuals who will have the opportunity to learn and begin a career in Supply Chain Management. Our program consists of three key learning areas concurrently:
Our Company: Learn about Service Market Logistics, Volvo Aftermarket Supply Chain, Group Trucks Operations, and Volvo Group including our mission, business processes, and strategies. This also includes exposure and networking with our global counterparts in EMEA and APAC.
Our Work: Outside of your primary position of operations supervisor (Front Line Manager), you will receive on the job training, projects, job shadowing, mentoring, education (Volvo Group University), and other opportunities to build a strong foundation for your career and within our business. Focus areas can include but are not limited to the following SCM functions:
Lean Management (Volvo Production Services - VPS)
Operations Support (Engineering, Logistics/Slotting/Space Management, Analytics)
Dealer Inventory Management, Supply Planning, & Supplier Relationship Management
Service Center and Order Management

- Your Development: During your program, development activities take place and focus on areas such as teamwork, professionalism, self-development, process improvement, and diversity and inclusion. This part of the program is focused on transitioning to a corporate environment and mastering the behaviors which embody the Volvo Values and our way of working.
This is a full-time, entry-level position, where selected candidates will learn the necessary skills and behaviors to effectively work with SCM professionals in a large global company. The position is based in our Byhalia MS Central Distribution Center, and travel may be required. Those selected for this program will play a critical role in helping SML meet or exceed our strategic objectives and develop further flexibility in our workforce. As you near the end of your program, you may have the ability to continue your career within an area of interest based on open and available positions or projects within SML NA.
FLM Position Summary
The First Line Manager (FLM) is responsible for an allocated area/flow in the distribution center, securing deliverables (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environment, and People – SQDCEP) through process, performance, and people management, along with continuous improvement. We will groom and develop recent graduates with a scholastic background in supply chain management, logistics development or related field.
The role of First Line Manager – SCM Trainee Program includes:
Plan and direct all resources of the distribution center employees within his/her area to maintain accountability for the operational performance in terms of SQDCEP
Develop and improve plans/processes, identify training, provide training and maintain competence levels of warehouse employees
Work to maintain and improve safety and ergonomics in assigned area of control
Secure analysis and corrective actions in case of accidents or incidents
Drive prevention through risk hunting and risk analysis
Increase safety culture via regular GEMBA walks and safety dialogue
Maintain compliance with company policy/procedures/union contracts as required
Promote a team environment, foster diversity and promote the development of direct reports through mentoring/coaching and empowerment to increase skill sets and talent levels of the team
Communicate and interact with manager and peers to apply sound communication and motivational techniques
Communicate with outbound carriers, manufacturing/industrial engineering teams as well as acting as a liaison with the dealer network, expediters, and hub
Support and ensure compliance of lean, ISO9001, and ISO4001 programs and communicate information to subordinates as required
Availability to work any/flexible distribution center shift schedule as needed
Must be flexible and available to work overtime on an as needed basis, including but not limited to nights, weekends and holidays
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Participate in hiring/termination process of distribution employees along with HR/LR Manager(s)
Develop and implement solutions to promptly address KPI falling below prescribed alarm & target levels
Manage a number of Team Leaders and respective team members
Cooperate with colleagues and drive cross-functional work with support organizations in order to secure deliverables in an end-to-end customer perspective
Engage other Volvo entities and third parties for operational issues when required
Enforce rules and regulations as set forth in any collective bargaining agreements, local work rules, and company policy
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or related area, finalized within the past 24 months. Degree must be from an accredited college/university. Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Strong consideration will be given to recent graduates with limited SCM work experience (maximum of two years) who possess knowledge in developing, customizing and deployment of supply chain management processes and principles.
Previous supervisory experience is a plus
Ability to perform tasks on a computerized inventory control system
Ability to develop effective relationships, provide strong leadership and direction, communicate department goals and plan work according to required goals
Ability to train, motivate, supervise, and discipline employees
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
